EOTC week-garden to table

It was so much fun on Thursday because we got to go to garden to table and make the things to deliver to the Waimarie hospital the next day.

We got our hats and lined up outside in the hot sun, then walked to the garden to table room and got our green apples/red tomato nametags. Everyone got told what they were doing and scrambled to get there.

My group went into our cool quiet classroom with Mrs Masters and Mrs Elmore to make nice and smelly lemon verbena bags with white or yellow ribbons. First I made one with a yellow ribbon, then I
went out with Mrs Elmore and my friend Emily to pick half an ice cream container full of lemon verbena.

Me and Emily had a competition of who could find the biggest lemon verbena leaf. Every time I found one that looked humongous Emily just ruffled through the container and pulled out one even bigger! On the neighbours side of the fence there were tomatoes and we didn't realise they were the neighbours until Mrs Elmore told us, so we picked three from our side of the fence and hid them in the lemon verbena so you couldn't even see a tiny patch of red. Walking back, me and Emily picked a bit of rosemary and hid that in the container too. When we got back Charlotte pulled out one of the tomatoes and said "Why is there a tomato in here? What else have you hidden?" "Just three tomatoes and a bit of rosemary!" Me and Emily giggled. After that I made another lemon verbena bag with a white ribbon.

Next we went inside the garden to table room and made lemon barley water for the Waimarie hospital. We had to read the recipe and get everything we needed : measuring cups. Also all the ingredients: boiling water, six lemons and two cups of sugar. We mixed all the ingredients together and divided the lemon barley water between two jugs,we would water the mixture down and pour it into all the bottles later.

Now it was the end of garden to table and we all had to tidy up. I helped to wipe down the tables and take things to the dishwasher to be cleaned.

That garden to table day was so much fun, especially hiding tomatoes and rosemary in the lemon verbena!
